Highway 17

Name
In Victoria, Hwy 17 is called the Patricia (Pat) Bay Hwy. Within the Metro Vancouver region, it's called Hwy 17.

Location/Address
Provides access to Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal (on Vancouver Island) and the Tsawwassen Bay Ferry Terminal (in the Lower Mainland).

Continues north-south to Hwy 99 (in Delta) at the Tsawwassen Bay Ferry Terminal (on the Lower Mainland).

Transverses north-south between the Victoria/Saanich boundary, and the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal (in Sidney), on Vancouver Island.

 Description
Consists of 4 lanes on Vancouver Island and on the Lower Mainland.

HOV lanes are available in Delta, between Ladner Trunk Rd and the on-ramp to Hwy 99 (Lower Mainland). Occupancy requirement: buses, vanpools, motorcycles, and vehicles with 2 or more persons.

The travel distance from Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal in Delta to Highway 99 (Delta): 14 km.
The travel distance from Victoria to Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal (Sidney): 29 km.

Alternate Routes:
An alternate route to Hwy 17, follow:
1. Hwy 99 northbound from Tsawwassen
2. 56 St north to 28 Ave
3. west to 53 St, continuing north as the street turns into Arthur Dr
4. east on River Rd to Hwy 99

• Reverse directions for southbound route.

Planned Expansion:
The Pitt River Bridge will be replaced with a new 7-lane (3 westbound, 4 eastbound) bridge. Construction scheduled: 2007-2009.
