Name
Hwy 1 within Metro Vancouver is also called the Upper Levels Hwy through North and West Vancouver.

Hwy 1A/99 connects Vancouver to the TransCanada Hwy (the Upper Levels Hwy) via W Georgia St. in downtown Vancouver, the Stanley Park Causeway and the Lions Gate Bridge to Taylor Way in West Vancouver, where it intersects with Highway 1.

Hwy 1 runs east-west (within Metro Vancouver) traversing through the communities of Langley, Surrey, Coquitlam, Burnaby, Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and joining Greater Vancouver to Vancouver Island (via BC Ferries at Horseshoe Bay).

Hwy 1A/99 consists of 3 lanes running through Vancouver and North Vancouver, with one reversible lane on W Georgia St., Stanley Park, and across the Lions Gate Bridge. Continues on as 4 lanes north and south on Taylor Way.

Hwy 1 marks the City of Vancouver’s eastern boundary, providing easy city access for those travelling from the eastern suburbs, the Pacific Border Crossing, and the BC Interior.

Description
Hwy 1 consists of 4 - 6 lanes and is a total length of 92 km from the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal (West Vancouver) to Hwy 11 (Abbotsford). Hwy 1A is a total of 8 km from Seymour St (Vancouver) to Hwy 1 (North Vancouver).

HOV lanes are available through Coquitlam and Burnaby (Grandview Hwy to Cape Horn Interchange). Occupancy requirement: buses, vanpools, motorcycles, and vehicles with 2 or more persons.

Alternate routes to Hwy 1 through Metro Vancouver include:
• Lougheed Highway (from Hope to Burnaby)
• Barnet Hwy (in Burnaby)
• Hastings St (in Vancouver)
• 1A/99 (via Lions Gate Bridge) across the Burrard Inlet
• Fraser Hwy (between Abbotsford & Surrey)
• Kingsway (in Burnaby & Vancouver)
• Marine Dr (from North & West Vancouver) to Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal
