Highway 99 provides a direct route from the Canada/US border through Vancouver to Squamish, Whistler, and the BC interior.

Runs north-south from the US border (Peace Arch) to Metro Vancouver and the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal as Highway 99 South, where it becomes Highway 99 North (Sea to Sky) up to Squamish and Whistler, terminating upon connecting with Hwy 97 (north of Cache Creek).

Description
Hwy 99 North (Sea to Sky) consists of 2 - 4 lanes and is a total length of 307 km from the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal (West Vancouver) to Hwy 97 (north of Cache Creek). Hwy 99 South consists of 4 lanes and increases to 6 lanes between the George Massey Tunnel and Westminster Hwy.  HOV lanes are available when approaching the George Massey Tunnel (from Delta & Richmond).

Travel distance from Blaine (Canada – US Border) to Vancouver (Oak St. Bridge) on Hwy 99 South is 41 km and on Hwy 99 North from the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal to Whistler it is 102 km.

Alternate Routes:
Between the BC Interior & Metro Vancouver:

From Greater Vancouver to Squamish or Whistler, follow:

  • Lougheed Hwy, or Hwy 1, to Hope
  • north on Hwy 1 from Hope to Hwy 12
  • Hwy 12 (from the junction with Hwy 1) to Hwy 99
  • west on Hwy 99 until Squamish or Whistler

An alternate route into Richmond (bypassing Delta or the George Massey Tunnel):

  7,789: south end of Cheekye River Bridge (approx. 10 km north of Squamish)

Planned Expansion:
Through the Sea to Sky Hwy Improvement Project, portions of the highway are currently being widened to three lanes. Additional improvements include four lanes of highway from West Vancouver to Lions Bay as well as from Murrin Park to Squamish.

 

Commercial Services

  • For all roads, the max vehicle height (including load) is 4.15m.
  • Drivers must obey low clearance warning signs.
  • No current load restrictions.
